In addition to senior living, there are also activities and care the city and businesses in town offer. If you’re not ready for full-time nursing care, these options are great to give family caregivers or retired folks a place to go, people to see, and things to do.

Aberdeen Area Senior Center

The Aberdeen Area Senior Center is a United Way agency provides a variety of activiites, care, and resources for seniors in the community. It’s located along the Moccasin Creek at Anderson Park, 1303 7th Ave SE. The Senior Center is home to a variety of activities, including Pickle Ball; board and table games like Scrabble, Bingo, Bridge, Mahjong, Pinochle; Line Dancing; Yoga; Dance Exercise Classes; Caregivers Support Group; bus trips, and so much more!

Meals on Wheels

Creating balanced meals can become harder as you age, which is why you can take part in Meals on Wheels. It’s a program offered in Aberdeen that provides home-delivered meals prepared by Avera St. Luke’s Hospital. The meals can be tailored to specified dietary needs and restrictions. If you would like to participate in the program, you can contact the Aberdeen Area Senior Center at 605-626-3330. You will need to get a doctor’s referral including your needed diet.  There are no income or age restrictions to receive meals.

Transportation

Transportation around Aberdeen can be harder if you don’t have a car or can no longer drive. Ride Line is a popular bus service ran by the City of Aberdeen. You can schedule the bus to pick you up and take you to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, and much more. To ride the bus, you will need to call (605) 626-3333 to schedule your ride.
