WYLIE PARK, CIRCLE OF FLAGS
JUNE 5, 3PM
A ceremonial raising of the America 250 South Dakota Flag recognizing our state’s participation in the national celebration. Guest remarks will include civic leaders and others. Color Guard ceremony and veteran recognition included.
All are welcome to attend, this event coincides with Wylie Park’s Family Fun Weekend.
DOWNTOWN ABERDEEN
JULY 4, 10AM
Celebrate Independence Day with a patriotic community parade featuring local organizations, businesses, and community groups. The parade begins near Aldrich Park and travels through downtown to Malchow Plaza.
Special Pet Costume Contest: Bring your “patriotic pet” to the museum parking lot at 9am for photos & prizes.

WYLIE PARK
JULY 4, 7-11PM
After the parade, come spend the day at the park!
Bring the entire family to Wylie Park on the 4th of July for a fun-filled day. Take part in the many activities at the park. Storybook Land Theatre is performing in the Castle at 6:30 p.m. The Aberdeen Municipal Band will perform at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks display will take place at dusk. Be a part of this special day sponsored by the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
KUHNERT ARBORETUM
JULY 5, 10AM-2PM
Celebrate community and country on July 5 at National Potluck Day in Aberdeen. Families, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather, bring a picnic basket, and share in a non-denominational Sunday worship service featuring music and fellowship. This special time together offers an opportunity to reflect on our American life, give thanks for our shared blessings, and strengthen the bonds that unite our community. Bring your picnic basket and blanket and enjoy the arboretum!


BROWN COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS

Artists are invited to participate in an open air live art competition that incorporates the county fair and the America 250 theme. Adult and youth categories, a quick-paint challenge, prizes and art sale. Public viewing encouraged.

Public program exploring local and national history as we reflect on 250 years of the American story and the founding fathers and mothers of Brown County history. Local and regional historians to present.

A public forum and guest speakers recognizing Constitution Day and the principles that continue to shape our nation. Additional displays found on campus.
MELGAARD PARK
APRIL 25, 1PM (food vendors arrive at 12:30pm)
Join us for the opening of the Zonta 1976 Time Capsule. This will serve as the official kickoff to Aberdeen’s America 250 celebration. Hosted in partnership with the Dacotah Prairie Museum, the event will feature speakers, live music, and ice cream and food trucks for families to enjoy. As part of the nationwide commemoration led by the United States Semiquincentennial Commission, the ceremony will honor the vision of those who preserved this piece of 1976 history while celebrating Aberdeen’s enduring role in the American story. Museum staff will be on hand to assist in the time capsule content claim process.
